Weekly Update – September 24, 2013

Quote of the Week

“We are a small library, serving 5,306 patrons. We love being able to borrow materials from 100 libraries! It feels like we are a “big” library! Our library patrons are able to find almost anything they want in our library using Evergreen! It gives them so many more options and allows them to do things much more independently! We absolutely love Evergreen! It has been the best thing I have seen happen to our library since I have been here the past 13 years!” —Vicki Melek, Director, Cambridge City PL

Fall Development Queue Survey

At the request of the Executive Committee, we have created a new survey to gauge member interest in potential development projects. Thank you for your input!

[SURVEY CLOSED]

Speedy Delivery!

Our largest net lenders need your help! In order to facilitate speedy transits, if you have any extra transit bags on hand and have transits on the way to Greenwood Public Library, Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library, Jackson County Public Library (Seymour, Crothersville, or Medora), Mooresville Public Library, Morgan County Public Library, Plainfield-Guilford Township Public Library, or Westfield-Washington Public Library, please tuck a couple of extra bags in with their transits. These systems send out more than a quarter (26.5%) of the consortium’s total intra-system transits annually. Sending a few extra bags their way each time will make it easier for them to get materials on the move and into your patrons’ hands!

Share and Share Alike

In response to several questions recently, we would like to take this opportunity to clarify the policy regarding what obligations members have to serving each others’ patrons. Patrons from other Evergreen Indiana libraries who receive full consortium service and are in good standing may circulate any item you allow your own patrons to circulate. With the exception of items cataloged with the circulation modifier of “kit”, “book new”, and “special collections”, all items may be placed on hold for pick-up at the owning library by any such patron. Items may be returned to any Evergreen Indiana library. Libraries receiving materials that typically do not transit (DVDs, art, kits, et cetera) are asked to take all possible steps to make certain that delicate materials are packaged as carefully as possible to ensure items return to their home library undamaged.

Dedupe Downtime!

In order to complete a deduplication project of the consortium’s bibliographic records, the system will be completely unavailable after the close of business on Saturday, October 12-Monday, October 14. Operations should resume as normal on Tuesday, October 15. If your library is open on Sunday and/or during the holiday, please use standalone. Please note that this will also affect some EI authenticated vendors (like OverDrive). Thank you for your patience!
