Weekly Update – December 11, 2012

Indiana Statehood Day

Happy Birthday, Indiana! On December 11, 1816, Indiana became the 19th state to join the Union. This year, Indiana Statehood Day celebrates Indiana’s 196th birthday. A special ceremony is held annually on December 11 in the Indiana Statehouse along with corresponding ceremonies at the Indiana State Library, Indiana State Museum and Indiana Historical Society. In addition to the ceremony, educational and interactive displays are presented by executive offices and state agencies throughout the Statehouse before and after the ceremony. Nearly 1,000 Hoosier fourth graders participate in the day’s activities annually.
